Separate the stages

Try a small sequence: identify the documents, extract potentially relevant events, arrange them by date, and check each entry against the original. Keep extraction separate from interpretation. An email that refers to an earlier conversation establishes that the email was sent; it does not necessarily establish that the account of the conversation is correct.
