The idea
An edit can change meaning even when it improves flow. A date can shift. A condition can disappear. ‘May’ can become ‘will.’ Tell the tool which parts must stay fixed before asking it to revise a draft.
What to check
Name the purpose of the edit. You might ask for shorter sentences while keeping facts, quotes, and legal positions intact. Keep the original beside the revision. Do not judge the new version by its polish alone.
Check names, dates, sums, quotes, and words that limit a claim. Then check what has gone missing. Treat each new factual claim as something that needs a source.
Try it
The draft says, ‘The client may accept, if the board approves.’ The revision says, ‘The client will accept.’ Is that a style change?
Check your understanding
No. The revision removes both choice and a condition. Restore them. A useful edit changes how the point reads without changing the point you intend to make.
