The idea

Models work with pieces of text called tokens. A token may be a word, part of a word, or a mark such as a comma. A page count is not a token count. A dense table and a short letter can take very different amounts of space.

What to check

Attention helps the model link parts of its input. It uses learned numbers to weigh those links. It is not human focus, and it does not show which facts are true.

Clear names make a task easier to check. ‘Compare it with the old one’ leaves both files unclear. Name each file and say which clause to compare. Ask for the words from each version.

Try it

Rewrite ‘Did he agree before she sent it?’ Use Lee's proposal of 8 March, Morgan's reply of 9 March, and Lee's notice of 10 March.

Check your understanding

Ask whether Morgan's reply agreed to Lee's proposal, and whether it came before the notice. Keep the order of dates separate from what the words mean. Do not invent what the files say.
