SDK — Software Development Kit
A kit of code for using a service. It helps a developer call that service from a program.
- You orderA program sends a request: here is the text, here is what to do.
- The waiter carries itThe API delivers it to the model and waits.
- The kitchen cooksThe model produces the answer.
- The plate comes backThe answer returns to the program, which shows it to you.
An API is the doorway between programs. Every chat app uses one behind the scenes; programmers can use the same doorway directly.
The fuller definition
A Software Development Kit is a collection of code and tools that helps developers use a platform or service. It often wraps API calls in convenient functions.

A concrete example
A Python SDK lets a program call a model service without manually constructing every HTTP request.
The distinction that matters
An SDK does not remove the need for credentials, error handling, or understanding the service's behavior.
